HMP Northumberland fork out £1million to change locks after guards keys are stolen

Insiders at HMP Northumberland claim a warder was put in a headlock by an inmate and dragged into a cell in April, before having his keys swiped, according to the Daily Express.

Now the firm which runs the mens' prison revealed it had to "review security systems" and change the locks at an estimated cost of more than £500,000. But moving prisoners to allow the lock change means the cost of the entire re-fit would have cost up to £1million, according to the Prison Officers' Association (POA).
