Vicon introduce high security cell camera

* Vicon_15ccm.jpgVicon has reinforced its position as a leading supplier of CCTV solutions for UK prisons, courts and custody suites with the introduction of a specialist cell camera.

The V15CCM colour/monochrome camera is designed to be mounted in the corner of a cell at the point where walls and ceiling meet. It has an internal adjustable mount so that the camera and lens assembly can be adjusted to give an optimum view of the cell and is fitted with a wide-angle lens to eliminate blind spots. Mounted around the lens are 28 IR LED illuminators to ensure that the camera can deliver high quality images regardless of the lighting conditions.

A secure access plate on the surface of the camera housing allows engineers to connect a handheld keypad and monitor to the camera for setting up of privacy zones. Privacy masking can be set up in any area of the screen and there can be as many masked areas as needed. Instant total image masking can be triggered from a switch located outside the cell.

"The provision of CCTV within a cell makes particular demands of the camera," says Guy Nixon, Vicon's Director of Technical Services. "In addition to being highly vandal-resistant, the camera needs be free of ligature points, completely waterproof, easy to access and service, and must also incorporate an invisible IR illuminator as well as privacy masking capabilities."
