Van users: life is going to get tougher

Van users have been reminded by The Fuelcard People of ever-tighter emissions controls. Steve Clarke, group marketing manager, said: "Life is already tough for anyone running vans or other LCVs, but those who fail to address emissions reduction will find it getting harder. As restrictions spread, the worst polluters will soon find themselves running out of road.

Already, larger vans and minibuses can only freely enter London's Low Emissions Zone - virtually the whole of Greater London - if their vehicle meets the Euro 3 standard for particulate matter. Otherwise, there is a £100 daily charge, imposed 24/7, with a non-payment penalty of £500.

"Since the capital introduced emissions control via the LEZ," said Steve, "London has had the treble impact of less traffic, less pollution and increased revenue. What possible reason could other cities and towns have for not following their lead? On top of that, the EU is committed to emissions reduction and more stringent legislation is only a matter of time. Van users need to start measuring their fleet emissions now and planning their reduction strategies."

Steve Clarke is uniquely positioned to comment upon emissions monitoring: a year after launching its innovative CO2Count service, The Fuelcard People remains Cool Earth's only official partner from within the automotive industry. Every monthly CO2Count Certificate issued helps Europe's fastest growing environmental charity to protect endangered rainforests.

"The need to monitor and reduce van emissions is not going to go away," said Steve. "The sooner that a van user gets to grips with the challenge, the better placed they will be as legislation inevitably tightens."

The Fuelcard People deals with the refuelling and emissions monitoring concerns of van users every day. It helps them to find the best refuelling deals through a range which includes commercial rate fuel cards valid at BP, Co-Op, Emo, Esso, Gulf, Shell, Texaco, Q8, Jet, Gulf, Spot, Murco, Morrisons, Tesco, Pace and Moto filling stations, as well as on the Diesel Direct (Keyfuels), MyFuel and UK Fuels networks.
