Warning to auto locksmiths

Locks and Security News has been advised of an incident that we now pass on as a warning to others.

An auto locksmith based in the London area took a call around 9PM at night recently and asked if he was able to work on a specific make and model of vehicle. He reassured them several times that he was.

Duly attending the vehicle, our lockie was surprised to see three men get out of the car brandishing basball bats and other potential weapons. The men chased after him when he fled the scene. When he returned after some time, he discovered that a £16,000 bit of kit had been stolen from his van. The vehicle was subsequently found to have been stolen as well. Was this merely opportunistic, or were the questions asked seeking to discover what they could steal to order? We'll probably never know, but just be wary whenever attending a call when it's dark and the vehicle is isolated.
