Comment: Whenever there's bad news, there's always some good news. Amid the doom and gloom (and real hardship) caused by the global economy and the downturn at home, we're pleased to say that the Locksmiths' Exhibition is now sold out. And with the jobs market the way it is, the fact that G4S the London Olympics official security provider has just opened its doors to recruit 10,000 staff for the event has also got to help. It's with many small steps such as these, as well as product innovation and refinements, additional distributorships etc, that we'll come out on the other side. Leaner maybe, but possibly stronger. After all, it could always be worse. Just ask my Dad. If you enjoy reading Locks and Security News so do others! ASSA ABLOY acquires Securistyle ASSA ABLOY has acquired Securistyle Group Holdings Limited in the UK. Securistyle specializes in window hardware and its product offering includes high performance friction hinges, handles and window locks.

New Mul-T-Lock anti snap cylinder meets diamond standards Mul-T-Lock UK has launched an innovative new Break Secure XP cylinder, which is the first anti-snap solution to achieve the revised Diamond Level of Sold Secure SS312 Lock cylinder specification. The new Break Secure XP cylinder from the leading security cylinder manufacturer has been independently tested and proven to exceed the brand new standards. The Briton 500 Series of panic exit hardware has undergone a radical transformation enabling devices to be fitted in just seven minutes, half the time of the existing range.
The improved range, from Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, features a new patented cable system for easier on site adjustment and maximum accuracy during installation. Both the 560 pushbar and 570 touchbar versions come with a self-adhesive template for correct fixing first time, significantly reducing the time it takes to fit the fire exit devices. The simple and secure snap-on covers complete the installation quickly and easily, giving the devices a modern finish which complements other Briton products - such as the 376 Series of panic hardware. London 2012: Security officials prepare for Olympic terror threat to be severe Security officials are planning for the terror threat at this summer's London 2012 Olympics to be severe - meaning an attack is considered 'highly likely'. Home secretary Theresa May is taking the responsibility of delivering a 'safe and secure Games', with the security budget already in excess of £1 billion. Employees will carry out a variety of tasks, including bag and vehicle searches in what is being billed the biggest paid recruitment drive of the century. G4S says it is recruiting from a broad range of backgrounds, ages and experience levels. Jobs are starting immediately and recruited staff will earn a starting wage of £8.50 an hour, rising for specialist skills and supervisory roles. Managing director of G4S security personnel, Mark Hamilton, said: "Our recruitment drive offers unique employment opportunities to thousands of Britons, allowing them to get closer to the excitement and play an important role in delivering a safe and secure London 2012 Games. Telford-based SmartWater Technology Ltd is working closely with Network Rail, law enforcers and law abiding scrap dealers to clamp down on this problem in the West Midlands. In figures released in early 2011, Network Rail said passengers had been delayed by more than 6,000 hours nationally in the previous 12-month period. These delays were the result of more than 3,000 individual instances of crime and caused Network Rail to pay out £16.5m to replace stolen cables and compensate train operators for loss of service. Nominations open for BSIA Apprentice Installer Awards 2012 With youth unemployment reaching an unprecedented 22% last year, creating meaningful, long-term career opportunities for young people has never been more important. The UK's security industry is fighting back, supporting its members in the recruitment of young people and celebrating the achievements of the industry's young apprentices.
