Cyber security: the risks to small businesses owners This year is already stacking up to be a seminal year in cyber security. In July of 2013, Yorkshire based Disposables UK Group took a step nearer to achieving its ambitious five year growth plan with a move to a larger site in Meltham, near Huddersfield. The family-run business, which is one of the largest employers in Meltham, has invested £1.7m in new machinery, and has plans to almost double its current £16m turnover to £30m by 2018. The company manufactures and distributes paper disposables and associated cleaning and hygiene products for the 'away from home market.' According to a press release published in the Wall Street Journal, video and security technology company DirectView Security plans to open a Colorado office to support the expansion of its cannabis industry security and surveillance business. In a quote "Both growers and dispensaries of marijuana have extensive state and local government compliance requirements when it comes to security." Far out man. A new venue has been contracted with better facilities for training and exhibitions space, in a hotel environment that has a pool and spa facilities as well as a gym, and more importantly, bars. The new Venue is the Nottingham Belfry Hotel, Mellors Way, Nottingham, NG8 6PY just one mile from J26 of the M1. Plans to teach children as young as 11 about careers in cyber-security have been announced. New learning materials would be offered to UK schools to publicise jobs in the sector, the Department for Business, Innovations and Skills said. A recent report said limited awareness of cyber-security as a profession had created a skills shortage. One expert said the UK was at risk of being "left behind and at a disadvantage globally."
