Demand for IT security rises in 2016

Information Security has become top of the agenda when it comes to what businesses see as their biggest threat, according to NTT Com Security. A quarter of survey respondents said they were certain they would be a victim of a cybersecurity incident, with another 40% saying they were pretty sure they would be hit. On average, a breach would cost companies just short of $1m (£0.69m).

Umbo CV raises $2.8M seed to create smart security cameras that prevent crimes

Umbo CV has raised a $2.8 million seed round for its security cameras, which use artificial intelligence to identify suspicious activity and prevent crimes before they happen. The Taipei- and San Francisco-based startup's funding was led by AppWorks Ventures, with participation from Mesh Ventures, Wistron Corporation, and Phison Electronics.

Karamba Security raises US$2.5 million to keep hackers out of connected cars

False ID rise 'risk to UK security'

A reported rise in migrants aiming to enter Britain using false papers poses real dangers to security, home affairs committee chairman Keith Vaz has said.

EU border agency Frontex reported a 70% year-on-year rise in fraudulent documents held by UK-bound migrants. This was mostly due to Ukrainians using real Polish ID cards and Albanians with Italian and Greek papers, it said.

Apprentices at the UK border prompt security fears

The Home Office is hiring apprentices to man British passport controls for the first time, leading to allegations the move could undermine security.

The UK Border Force has advertised for 150 apprentices aged at least 18 to work at Heathrow and Stansted airports. Sources inside the agency told The Telegraph there were concerns a far shorter training period - and a lack of on-the-job insight - could result in security lapses.
