EU to extend some telecom security rules to WhatsApp and Skype The European Union is set to extend some security rules currently only applicable to telecom operators to web services such as WhatsApp, Skype and Apple's FaceTime, according to a draft proposal. Full Story |

G4S to give security staff cameras to detect weapons and suicide vests through clothing G4S is to supply its security staff with cameras which can spot suicide belts and guns through clothing in a bid to foil any Paris-style attacks, after agreeing deal with software development company Digital Barriers. The security firm is understood to be giving the cameras to its staff working at large events such as sports fixtures or concerts with the intention of screening people more effectively, rather than traditional search methods, which take a longer amount of time and often lead to queues. EU to push new security rules amid IoT mess by Brian Krebs The European Commission is drafting new cybersecurity requirements to beef up security around so-called Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as Web-connected security cameras, routers and digital video recorders (DVRs). News of the expected proposal comes as security firms are warning that a great many IoT devices are equipped with little or no security protections. The figures, published in Send for Help Limited's Annual Report found that for the year ending 31st March 2016, turnover was up 81% year-on-year and operating profits had also increased by 42% within the same period. Results for 2015/16 saw the company turnover increase to £6.1m, with a gross margin of 4.94m and profits of £1.5m - with an adjusted EBITDA* figure of £3m.
