United States names its first Chief Information Security Officer
US president Barack Obama has named Brigadier General (retired) Gregory J. Touhill as the nation's first ever Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Touhill previously served as deputy assistant secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications in the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications at the Department of Homeland Security.
EU to extend some telecom security rules to WhatsApp and Skype
The European Union is set to extend some security rules currently only applicable to telecom operators to web services such as WhatsApp, Skype and Apple's FaceTime, according to a draft proposal.Full Story

When fire safety and access control meet
With the new innovative Briton 571 EL solution, Allegion has created the first Briton electromechanical exit device that can be truly integrated with access control.
In high footfall buildings such as schools, offices and hospitals, it is often the case that employee and staff entrances will also be one of the fire exits for the building.
G4S to give security staff cameras to detect weapons and suicide vests through clothing
G4S is to supply its security staff with cameras which can spot suicide belts and guns through clothing in a bid to foil any Paris-style attacks, after agreeing deal with software development company Digital Barriers.
The security firm is understood to be giving the cameras to its staff working at large events such as sports fixtures or concerts with the intention of screening people more effectively, rather than traditional search methods, which take a longer amount of time and often lead to queues.Full Story

EU to push new security rules amid IoT mess

The European Commission is drafting new cybersecurity requirements to beef up security around so-called Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as Web-connected security cameras, routers and digital video recorders (DVRs). News of the expected proposal comes as security firms are warning that a great many IoT devices are equipped with little or no security protections.Full Story
Lone worker protection provider, Send for Help Group reports record growth for fourth year running
The Send for Help Group - the world's largest lone worker protection provider, are pleased to announce record growth and profits for the financial year 2015/16. The figures, published in Send for Help Limited's Annual Report found that for the year ending 31st March 2016, turnover was up 81% year-on-year and operating profits had also increased by 42% within the same period.
Results for 2015/16 saw the company turnover increase to £6.1m, with a gross margin of 4.94m and profits of £1.5m - with an adjusted EBITDA* figure of £3m.
Pro-Vision appoint new Area Sales Manager
Pro-Vision Distribution, the national distributor of branded CCTV and Access Control equipment, have further strengthened their external sales team with the appointment of Steve Dunning as Area Sales Manager for the North of England.
Steve brings with him over 15 years of experience in the security industry - from both the manufacturing and the distribution sectors. Prior to joining Pro-Vision Steve was over 10 years with CBC where he was instrumental in securing the supply and specification of CCTV equipment for a variety of major projects. In addition to Steve's time with CBC (Europe) he had 7 years in the distribution channel with Gardiners Security Distribution.
