Locksmiths' Exhibition 2011 a 'resounding success' The Locksmiths' Exhibition held last weekend 5/6th March was a resounding success, says Mick Friend, show organiser and editor of Locks and Security Monthly. Visitor figures are 1100 for the two days of the event (700 for the first day; 400 for the second). A large percentage of these visitors were first time 'eventers' as were some of the exhibitors. Record sales have been recorded, with one exhibitor achieving £30,000 in sales at the show. Consultation on new code of practice on CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition A consultation on a new code of practice governing the use of CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems has been launched, Crime Prevention Minister James Brokenshire announced recently. Security buyers want industry regulation On the same day that the SIA announced government agreement on the framework for future regulation of the security industry, buyers of security services made clear their desire for continued regulation. IPSA supports Statement on industry regulation The International Professional Security Association voiced its complete support for Bill Butler and the SIA following his statement concerning the new regulatory regime for the security industry. Locksmith frees crying toddler after 4 hours in shut bank vault A 14-month-old girl who wandered away from her mother and grandmother spent four hours trapped inside a time-locked bank vault until a locksmith freed her. The child apparently strayed into the open vault as the bank was closing. After the missing child was spotted on security cameras inside the vault, Atlanta police and firefighters tried unsuccessfully to free the toddler and feverishly summoned the locksmith. While rescue workers pumped fresh air into vents leading to the vault while the locksmith worked, authorities stood by along with the child's relatives. After using a 'big drill' the locksmith freed the little girl who was fine save a much-needed nappy change! That saved him a few bob then! After locking himself out of his house, Ronald Rutter, 91, was so incensed by a row with his locksmith that he refused to pay and climbed over his neighbour’s garden fence in a bid to break into his own home. However, it is thought that Mr Rutter fell into a narrow gap between the shed and a tree and got stuck. His body was not discovered for ten days, Westminster Coroner’s Court was told. IFSEC - The future of security under one roof As the security landscape expands new ideas and product innovations are fundamental. It is the responsibility of the security professional to remain one step ahead, so the opportunity to explore advanced products with industry-changing capabilities is not to be missed. A St Helens security firm has stepped in to save more than 100 jobs at a Yorkshire company. Kingdom Security Ltd, based in Eccleston, has bought Group Response Global (GRG) Ltd out of administration. Kingdom Security was formed in 1993, and in recent years, became a Top 20 UK security supplier and a member of Pacesetters (top 15 per cent of ACS audited companies). Finest Group achieves PAS 24 with double door The Southsea-based fabricator submitted inward and outward-opening door sets, made with WHS System 10 Rustique profile and using a hardware solution provided by Roto. Both met the demands of the PAS 24 schedule. Unusually, there are no shootbolts. Instead, Roto NT corner drives with mushroom cams are fitted to the top and bottom of each leaf. Campaign warns public as distraction burglars sentenced - Crime fighting leaflet launched As a gang of prolific distraction burglars prepare to serve long prison sentences, Operation Liberal and the Energy Retail Association (ERA) are launching a new leaflet to warn residents about the tricks and tactics used by distraction burglars.
The new leaflet, which will help prevent people from becoming victims of crime, has been sponsored by the Energy Sure Code, which ensures that energy company staff comply with a strict code of practice.
