Dutyholders urged to pay heed to multiple emerging fire safety legislations

On January 23rd the Fire Safety (England) Regulation 2022 came into effect, putting greater emphasis on the importance of fire doors and fire safety instructions for multi-occupied high-rise buildings.

In addition this month, the UK Government has launched a consultation to force developers into putting a second staircase in all new housing blocks over 30 metre tall and sprinklers in all new care homes regardless of building height.

Three men prosecuted for working as illegal security in Newtownards

On 25 January 2023 Christopher Butler, from Belfast, pleaded guilty at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court to five offences including providing illegal security to a bar and restaurant in Newtownards.

Two men supplied as security by Butler were also prosecuted on Wednesday for working illegally at the same venue. Butler, who is sole director of Strangford Security, has been referred for further proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
