Highest ever turnout at MLA Expo 2011 The International Centre at Telford was a hub of activity from the 9-11 September as the site of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) Expo 2011. With an increased number of stands sold and a record level of pre-registrations, it was clear from the outset that this year's Expo was going to garner unprecedented levels of interest. Dutch security firm DigiNotar files for voluntary bankruptcy The voluntary bankruptcy follows a series of attacks by hackers. The attackers penetrated DigiNotar's internal systems and then issued fake security certificates so they could impersonate web firms. Mul-T-Lock dedicates new appointment to access control Mul-T-Lock has appointed a dedicated Sales Manager for access control with a brief to further develop a growing range of electronic security products for the benefit of locksmiths in the UK. Hoax e-mail From "Crimestoppers" Trading Standards has advised of a hoax email purporting to be from Crime Stoppers. The email states that "if forced by a robber to withdraw monies, the victim can notify the bank they are under duress and alert the Police by entering their PIN number in reverse." This is a hoax, and entering a reverse PIN will have no effect. The 2nd China International Lock Industry Expo 2012 The 2nd China (Guangzhou) International Lock Industry Expo 2012 is to be held on April 16t - 18 , 2012 in Guangzhou, the business & trade centre of China. Over the past few weeks LASN has been following a developing story taking place in the US about a safe opening. No ordinary safe, this one once belonged to a Lake Tahoe, California casino owner, Richard L. Chartrand, who was killed by a car bomb outside his home in 1968.
Only discovered recently, the safe had been hidden away for many years behind a false wall. Domain Registration Update Scam There have been reports from businesses and consumers that they are being contacted by companies claiming that their domain registration needs to be updated for a cost of around £75. IATA warns that UK airports struggling to cope with security costs The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned that the main UK airports are struggling to cope with mounting layers of security regulations that are costing some £4.6bn a year to implement.
