Lock Raider, the new face of Tradelocks A childhood fascination with locks has turned into a dream career for Stephanie Atkinson - the latest member of the Tradelocks sales team and the new face of Tradelocks. A man who used a firm that provided security for T in the Park as a front to defraud taxpayers out of £1 million has been jailed for almost four years reports The Herald, Scotland. David Stewardson, 55, was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after he admitted he failed to declare £503,000 to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). He also evaded paying £541,000 in income tax and national insurance. More than £3m was put through Stewardson's company account over a four-year period but the firm, Westcoast Group Security, failed to pay any VAT or National Insurance contributions. New security chief for parliament after Murdoch pie affair Parliament may be getting a new head of security in the wake of an attack on Rupert Murdoch, reports Politics.co.uk. The attack took place earlier this year, when activist Jonnie Marbles tried to cover the media mogul in shaving foam, only to be fought off by his wife Wendi Deng. Locksmith shot after responding to keys locked in vehicle The shooting happened in the early hours of Monday morning. According to Atlanta Police, the locksmith was called to unlock a van. When he arrived, he was approached by two men, one of whom pulled a gun and shot the locksmith in the stomach. The suspects fled the scene after the shooting. The locksmith was taken to hospital where his condition is critical. Police said the van he was called to unlock was one of two stolen from a daycare centre. London Olympics security bill to top £1bn Fears of terror attacks and rioting are likely to see Olympic authorities release the full £1billion-plus budget earmarked for security at next year's London Games, according to a report published in the Daily Express. Experts are gearing up to foil a huge range of potential threats, from Al Qaeda-inspired biological or air attacks to the sort of looting seen in the summer across Britain. British security company G4S PLC says it has agreed to acquire Danish cleaning giant ISS G4S said Monday the combined company would be the world's largest security and facilities group, merging two firms with combined annual revenues of 15.9 billion pounds last year. ISS is the larger company, with revenue of 8.5 billion pounds. The market reacted negatively, with GFS shares down 18 percent at 230 pence in midmorning trading. New deal signed to boost skills in the security sector ADS and Skills for Security, the not-for-profit sector skills organisation for the UK private security industry, are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to increase the availability and quality of training available to everyone who works in the industry. It is now time for wider consultation on the changes that have been made and practitioners in these two sectors are invited to have their say. Hoax e-mail From "Crimestoppers" Trading Standards has advised of a hoax email purporting to be from Crime Stoppers. The email states that "if forced by a robber to withdraw monies, the victim can notify the bank they are under duress and alert the Police by entering their PIN number in reverse." This is a hoax, and entering a reverse PIN will have no effect. Domain Registration Update Scam There have been reports from businesses and consumers that they are being contacted by companies claiming that their domain registration needs to be updated for a cost of around £75. IATA warns that UK airports struggling to cope with security costs The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned that the main UK airports are struggling to cope with mounting layers of security regulations that are costing some £4.6bn a year to implement. |
