Cell locks replaced in Birmingham prison keys' mystery

Work on replacing locks at Birmingham's newly-privatised prison has commenced following the mystery disappearance of a set of keys.

Prisoners at the jail in Winson Green were placed in lockdown for almost 24 hours last week after the keys, including one to open every cell door in the 1,450 capacity prison, went missing.

Skype security flaw, IP addresses and torrent activity traced

Researchers at New York City University have uncovered a security flaw in Skype that allows hackers to track users' locations and view peer-to-peer file sharing activity.

The problem isn't just related to the Skype service either, but also other VOIP applications.

Researcher finds major security flaw in Facebook

The issue could allow hackers to send malicious software to people who aren't their friends, reports Computerworlduk and according to an article in the Daily Telegraph this happens up to 600,000 times per day. www.telegraph.co.uk

Nathan Power, a senior security penetration tester at technology consultancy CDW, discovered the vulnerability and publicly disclosed it Thursday on his blog. The flaw was reported to Facebook on 30 September, which acknowledged the issue on Wednesday, he wrote.

G4S ends ISS deal. British security group G4S announced yesterday that it had ended a deal to buy Danish facilities group ISS for £5.2 billion on shareholder concerns at the size of the takeover amid economic uncertainty. The shock announcement comes one day before G4S shareholders had been due to vote on whether to approve the deal, which needed 75 percent support.

G4S had on October 17 announced its plans to create the world's largest security and facilities firm.

Data Management Inc celebrated its 50th anniversary during October. The company began in 1961 with the introduction of a simplified, high-quality bookkeeping system. Security firm boss is jailed

A man who used a firm that provided security for T in the Park as a front to defraud taxpayers out of £1 million has been jailed for almost four years reports The Herald, Scotland.

David Stewardson, 55, was sentenced at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after he admitted he failed to declare £503,000 to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). He also evaded paying £541,000 in income tax and national insurance.

More than £3m was put through Stewardson's company account over a four-year period but the firm, Westcoast Group Security, failed to pay any VAT or National Insurance contributions.

New security chief for parliament after Murdoch pie affair

Parliament may be getting a new head of security in the wake of an attack on Rupert Murdoch, reports Politics.co.uk.

The attack took place earlier this year, when activist Jonnie Marbles tried to cover the media mogul in shaving foam, only to be fought off by his wife Wendi Deng.

London Olympics security bill to top £1bn

Fears of terror attacks and rioting are likely to see Olympic authorities release the full £1billion-plus budget earmarked for security at next year's London Games, according to a report published in the Daily Express.

Experts are gearing up to foil a huge range of potential threats, from Al Qaeda-inspired biological or air attacks to the sort of looting seen in the summer across Britain. For example, an unprecedented no-fly zone over Olympic venues will be in place to prevent a 9/11-style attack.
