'A real need to focus on the challenge of drones’ EU data protection group sparks debate
Last month, the European Union’s Article 29 Working Party published its opinion on the use of drones. The group, which includes representatives from Europe’s various data protection agencies, collectively recommended the use of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) for any organisation considering the use of drones.
A PIA is a powerful tool to identify and reduce potential data protection and privacy risks and can help organisations decide what measures need to be in place to protect individuals when using drones. The opinion also highlights the need for national data protection and civil aviation authorities to work together in supporting organisations when using the emerging technology.
You can read Guidance on operating drones on the ICO website.
