Urmet awarded Secured by Design Certification
Urmet UK has been awarded Secured by Design certification, joining the UK's official police security initiative which aims to prevent crime through design innovations.
Secured by Design is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), a police-owned organisation that works on behalf of Police & Crime Commissioners and Chief Constables to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK. PCPI is a not-for-profit organisation and Board Members include senior police officers from each of the four Home Nations.
Secured by Design plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to 'design out' crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant successes including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.
SBD has many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and works closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.
Urmet door entry and access control solutions have been thoroughly tested in conjunction with doors by Premier Security & Fire Consultants Ltd - the UK's leading supplier of Secured by Design community entrance steel door sets.
All products must be subjected to vigorous testing and auditing by an accredited third-party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo - this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security-related products in the UK.
The SBD certification awarded to Urmet products demonstrates the ongoing commitment to security advances and innovative design which the company have focused on over the last 80 years, bringing exceptional reassurance to the door entry market.
Managing Director of Urmet UK, Manji Gami, commented: "We have always worked to the principles of Secured by Design and now take great pride in being an SBD member. Being a member of SBD gives our clients (developers, consultants and installers) the reassurance that working with Urmet UK means that they are working with a company where delivering the right solution matters."
