XL Joinery launches first fully integrated fire doors with the help of ASSA ABLOY
Working collaboratively across several business units, the ASSA ABLOY Group has enabled valued customer XL Joinery to launch its first ever range of fully integrated fire doors for residential apartments.
The Simpli Advanced range from XL Joinery required a high-quality range of door hardware to achieve fire integrity.
Through close collaboration with the XL Joinery team, ASSA ABLOY was able to offer the perfect solution, supplying components from UNION, Yale Door and Window Solutions and Lorient – all of which work hand-in-hand to maintain integrity during a fire.
XL Joinery – an established door distributor for more than 25 years – had previously sold its doors and ironmongery separately, and was seeking to launch its first range of fire doors with the components pre-fitted as standard. To achieve this, the company turned to ASSA ABLOY for not only the hardware, but the support behind this to ensure a compliant solution and support around testing and accreditation.
Key to the success of the project was the way in which ASSA ABLOY established and understood the customer solution, before project managing this process, pooling the resources of its UK group business units to make it a reality.
This allowed the company to provide XL Joinery with a combined offering of UNION hinges and door closers; Yale Door and Window Solutions’ multipoint lock range, suitable for PAS24 doorsets and assessed at ASSA ABLOY’s UKAS testing laboratory; and Lorient’s intumescent and acoustic components, as well as acoustic testing and indicative fire tests.
Thanks to this cooperation between ASSA ABLOY’s different brands, XL Joinery was able to bring to market a range of residential apartment fire doors that offers its customers the highest standards of quality, protection and functionality.
Sean Williams, OEM Regional Sales Manager for the North & Ireland at UNION, who led the project, comments: “XL Joinery had the doors, but what they needed was the door sets, with everything that entails in terms of the different components and the testing required. As a Group, we had everything they required, including the knowledge and experience to guide them through the testing process. This meant we were the perfect partner to help them bring the Simpli Advanced range to market.
“This project was a case of teamwork between the different partners, and while Covid-19 restrictions at times made face-to-face meetings impossible, we always managed to adapt and keep the project on track without delays.
“The project has been such a success that we are now moving on to a second phase with XL Joinery, extending the project to encompass the company’s external entrance door range.”
Mark Williams, Director of Technical & Product Development at XL Joinery, adds: “From the very first consultation, through extensive security and fire testing, and culminating in fully compliant and third-party accredited fire doorsets, ASSA ABLOY has provided a breadth of product, knowledge and support that is unparalleled in our industry.
“Considering the challenges that the last year has presented, the achievements made in bringing the Simpli Advanced doorset range to market is phenomenal and ASSA ABLOY and XL Joinery will continue to move forward developing products and solutions that meet the highest regulatory and aesthetic requirements.”
