TrustMark’s response to CMA report on consultation on trader recommendation sites

* TrustMark.jpgSimon Ayers, CEO TrustMark:

“TrustMark welcomes the CMA report and recommendations on Trader Recommendation Platforms (TRP) and the meaningful advice contained within and had been delighted to support the CMA through the consultation process. We believe that advice that helps consumers understand what they need to consider when searching for a tradesperson to carry out work within their homes will help them identify vetted and competent tradespeople from reputable trusted schemes.

The rigour of the TrustMark scheme supports the delivery of the CMA principles and requirements which allows consumers to be afforded the protection required when undertaking work in their homes. TrustMark, through its frameworks, ensures that registered businesses who have been subject to scrutiny and assurance operate within the requirements of the code of conduct and the customer charter.

We believe that it is in consumers’ interests that any organisation operating a TRP should improve and align their offer to established good practice, assured standards and practices. This will support consumers to make well informed, meaningful comparisons about the benefits and risks associated with the use of particular TRPs and the businesses listed on them more easily, enabling them to compare like for like reducing complexity for consumers and for businesses alike.

Consumers must be provided with suitable aligned and common dispute resolution standards to ensure appropriate resolutions can be accessed.

TrustMark helps consumers to access competent, vetted tradespeople through our directory of Registered Businesses. Additionally, our consumer protection and quality assurance requirements enable consumers, TRPs and lenders to mitigate risk on work consumers have done in and around their homes.”
