Comment:

Planned security measures surrounding next year's London Olympics continue to grab headlines. Following last week's revelations that thousands of troops will be deployed in addition to the 10,000 G4S personnel (perhaps its just as well then that after 60 odd years British troops are being brought back to the UK from Germany), reports have been published in the Guardian that the US has raised repeated concerns about security and is preparing to send up to 1,000 of its agents, including 500 from the FBI, to provide protection for America's contestants and diplomats. The UK government is, however, expressing 'full confidence' in its security plans. Is this the same government that expressed full confidence in disgraced Defence Minister Liam Fox and in the Home Office's Theresa May, still fighting off allegations of having deliberately left the country's front door wide open?

Kiss of death then.

Meanwhile, the new non-emergency 101 number is being rolled out to reduce pressure on the 999 service. We can understand the logic of that, but question the fact that calls to the number will cost 'no more than' 15p. It's another tax really isn't it?
