Honeywell launches ultra compact seismic sensor

Honeywell has announced ultra-compact, high-security seismic sensors suitable for financial and retail organizations looking to protect their assets. The SC100 series of seismic sensors has been designed to detect vibrations arising from attempts to penetrate high value storage units ranging from fixed vaults and safes to vending machines, protecting them from intrusion.

The series comprises the SC100 sensor which provides protection for vaults, doors, fixed ATMs, safes and other solid structures while the SC105 sensor is designed to safeguard storage units in ‘noisy’ environments, such as vending and ticket machines, cabinets, gun cases, portable ATMs and small safes in retail outlets. It offers the optimal sensitivity and false alarm immunity ratio for these types of free-standing objects.

The compact size of the SC100 series means these sensors can fit inside hardware that is rapidly getting smaller, allowing businesses to safeguard items that were previously difficult to protect. It also offers superior protection over a traditional shock sensor, which often lacks the sophisticated sensing ability to discriminate between ambient vibration and real attacks.

The SC100 series has been designed with installers in mind. For example, its end-of-line (EOL) resistors improve connectivity to the control panel, boosting reliability and reducing service calls and associated costs. The integrated EOL resistors also eliminate the need  to supply and fit external resistors, cutting installation time and minimizing disruption to a customer’s business. Meanwhile, advanced sensing technology provides strengthened detection while reducing the potential for false alarms. In addition, the SC100’s ‘one size fits all’ design is suitable for any application and has an integrated temperature sensor which eliminates the need for additional sensors, reducing installers’ inventories and saving costs.

Honeywell’s seismic sensing capability is now available on the Galaxy Dimension and MB intruder alarm system range which delivers a total security solution for any banking and retail premises.

“Our new seismic sensing capability delivers a compelling value proposition to banks and retailers who may not have been protecting all of their assets, because it was not previously cost effective or practical,” added Yves Pichon, marketing leader EMEA, Honeywell Security Group. “By adding this capability to our Galaxy Dimension system, we are not only significantly strengthening the security we can offer to customers in this space, but we’re also giving them a truly ‘one-stop’ solution for all their security needs.”
