Hotel door lock manufacturer Onity has now provided a security fix - some five months after the ease with which the integrity of the electronic card locks could be compromised was exposed at a US hacker's expo. It is known that some thieves have deliberately copied the hack and have entered hotel rooms and stolen valuables such as laptops. It is not known, or has not been reported, that anyone has been harmed due to this type of lock being bypassed. The questions being asked are: 1. surely products are tested to destruction before being released, in this case destruction being seen to mean 'rendered useless'? 2. Why did it take five months to fix?
