Sheltered housing secure with Mul-T-Lock

* MT5-With-Cylinder.jpgDES Locksmiths has upgraded the cylinders on all doors of flats and communal areas at Claremont Road Sheltered Housing to Mul-T-Lock's patented MT5 key and cylinder system, to offer residents high quality security whilst also solving key management issues.

Claremont Road Sheltered Housing offers 48 one bedroom flats for residents, together with a community lounge and guest facilities.

Managed by Guinness South, a member of the Guinness Partnership, the housing enables retired residents to maintain their independence with the assurance of support as and when required.

Key to this success is a concentration on the security on site and delivery of safe and secure housing. Here, scheme managers worked closely with local Mul-T-Lock dealers DES Locksmiths to source a cost efficient security solution for residents, whilst still allowing management teams total key control.

DES Locksmiths recommended upgrading to Mul-T-Lock's patent protected MT5 system to gain more control on key management whilst still benefitting from the master key possibilities.

Says Cathy Neill, Scheme Manager at Claremont Road Sheltered Accommodation: "The advantage of the master key system is that it allows residents the lifestyle independence of their own home but still means we can gain access in case of an emergency.

"By adopting Mul-T-Lock's MT5 solution, we can maintain this philosophy and also keep more control over who can copy the keys to prolong the durability of the system. We have already received positive feedback from residents that we have relayed to Guinness South to enable more properties to benefit."

Nicky Crossman, works manager at DES Locksmiths added: "Even though the original locks may have appeared to be working well, developments in lock technology mean that these doors were no longer secure by modern standards. Moving to Mul-T-Lock's MT5 solution not only upgraded the security on site at Claremont Road Sheltered Housing, but also solved key management issues."

MT5 is the first cylinder in the UK to be supported by a unique key authorisation magnetic strip card. This card must be presented to the registered MT5 locksmith before additional keys can be supplied to ensure tight control of key duplication.

Steve Ross, Managing Director of Mul-T-Lock concluded: "Sheltered housing is designed to provide independence for residents in a secure and friendly environment, in accordance with the standards set out by the Care Commission. What Claremont Road Sheltered Housing demonstrates is that moving to a master key system like Mul-T-Lock's MT5 solution is a simple and intelligent way of achieving this goal."
