New guidance on the use of drones
The ICO has published advice for the public on the data protection issues connected to the use of drones. The advice confirms that the personal use of drones will not normally be covered by the Act, but that users should still act responsibly to avoid having an unnecessary impact on people’s privacy.
The advice is based on our recently updated CCTV guidance** that explains organisations’ legal requirements under the DPA when using drones and other types of surveillance cameras to collect personal information.
All operators of drones will also need to follow the guidance published by the Civil Aviation Authority***.
