Increased resolution with new EverSharp feature

The uncooled thermography camera family, VarioCAM High Definition from InfraTec GmbH, available in the UK through Armstrong Optical Ltd of Northampton, is equipped with a globally unique detector with 1,024 x 768 pixels, and has established a presence in various industries for a wide variety of measurement and assessment purposes.

Its broad applicability across the usage spectrum is made possible not only by the range of different system variants under the VarioCAM HD name but also by the complimentary accessory range and software upgrades. The model variants "research" and "inspect" are available for mobile operations, for example, while the "head" version is designed for stationary tasks in harsh environments.

Designed for continuous operation, the integrated opto-mechanical MicroScan unit is now in its third generation and enables the VarioCAM HD systems to acquire thermographic images and video sequences with a best-in-market resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. This means that even the smallest structures and defects can now be detected efficiently and safely on large-scale measurement objects.

The introduction of the innovative "EverSharp" feature, now ensures that all objects in every frame of the image scene will be clear and focussed, regardless of their distance from the camera and irrespective of the lens used. To achieve this, special algorithms are used to create a single thermographic image from multiple focal length exposures. These are then automatically combined, so that only structures that are clearly in focus are represented in the resulting thermographic image. As a result, detailed thermographic images can be created in which all objects appear with the highest possible clarity.

The innovative "EverSharp" feature is the latest of many other useful functions available with the VarioCAM HD series, such as the "permanent autofocus" integrated laser rangefinder, the distance-dependent display of measurable object size, plus a wide range of optional lenses to support and ease the acquisition of usable thermographic images.

Taking into account the user-specific tailored thermography packages of the IRBIS 3 software family that are supplied with every camera , professional thermographers now have in the VarioCAM(r) HD a working tool that is well suited to virtually any measurement task from routine preventive maintenance through to cutting edge research and development.
