LA airport TSA security screeners 'ran drug-ring'
Four current and former security screeners at Los Angeles international airport have been arrested and charged with drug-trafficking and bribery. The four accepted cash to allow large shipments of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana through X-ray machines, the US justice department said. Weber County sheriff's deputies say they responded to a burglary call and found the man with lock picks, bolt cutters and what appeared to be a glass pipe for smoking methamphetamine. They requested a search warrant and seized stolen items from a truck, including several purses, wallets, religious books, a gun and gems worth an estimated $5,000. Free lock change for abused women - in Madrid Abused women in Madrid will be able to change their door locks for free. The Madrid government and the Safety Locksmith Union Federation have signed an agreement to provide this service for victims of gender violence once it has been authorized by a judge. This service is frequently requested by associations for abused women. The agreement, entitled ‘Close the Door on Abuse’ aims to guarantee the safety of women and their children against violent partners. Chubb Security boss apologises for 'oxygen thieves' email slur A Chubb Security boss in Australia was forced to apologise to workers and undergo counselling after circulating an email describing injured cash-in-transit guards as "oxygen thieves". But the National Union of Workers believes the punishment is too lenient and have called for him to resign, reports The Herald Sun. The email, written on April 24 and obtained by The Sunday Telegraph, was sent by Chubb's national security manager Brian Lee. Full StoryThe retirement plan that paid off earlier than expected By Mike Nixon, Tri-Parish Times Mark Avet thought it was a smart move when he was 41 to include residential and business locks to his skills list - just to have something to fall back on when he reached retirement age. Expectation for retirement, however, came a decade earlier than anticipated for Avet, when in 2009 the financially strapped US auto industry cut thousands of workers by closing plants and shuttering dealerships across the country. Fortunately for this locksmith he was not shut out of a career. The plan worked - although not in a manner originally intended - and Avet's locksmith efforts quickly grew into being a real job. "When I started in the car business in 1974, one of the first things I had to do was make key cylinders," he said. "So, I've basically been doing this all my life."
