Lockdecoders have just released a new Key-Crypt Pro software update. It is version pc software P43 and device 211. The jail that needs new locks! The Putnam County jail in Tennessee has failed its 2011 Corrections Institute inspection and if the findings listed in a recently issued report are left uncorrected, the facility could lose its state certification. Faulty locks are the main culprit, officials say. It could cost the county up to $165,000 to replace 48 of those door fixtures in two medium security areas. Unipart Security hosts successful installer day The first of the Unipart Security series of 'Installer Days' was held on 28th July at the company's facilities in Oxford. It is fair to say that sharing resources from a vast, undifferentiated pool of servers and switches carries its own real risks; it is the path to the Cloud that businesses need to address first. Full StoryMLA Expo outflanking 2009 show With just two months to go until one the most anticipated locksmithing exhibitions of the year, organisers behind MLA Expo '11 are delighted to announce a substantial increase in the number of enquiries and sold exhibition space based on figures from the previous event. The last MLA Expo in 2009 saw just under 50 exhibitors and over 1000 visitors through the doors, but with a record number of stalls already sold for the 2011 event and enquiries still flooding in, the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) is gearing up for its biggest Expo to date. Police are now armed with a device that can scan fingerprints so they can correctly identify suspects who lie about their details. In what sounds like something out of George Orwell's dystopia 1984, suspects can now be finger printed in the street thanks to the new hand-held gadget. The mobile identification service scans a print, then checks it by trawling through a national database for the details. Celebrating its thirteenth year with a five percent rise in entries, the Security Excellence Awards, a key networking and social event in the industry calendar, represent a fantastic opportunity for the security industry to come together and honour the achievements of their peers in the security management, installation, consultancy and manufacturing sub-sectors. The Awards will be present Locking wheelie bins to thwart scavengers Los Angeles: officials are considering making trash containers with built-in locks available to more residents as a tool to thwart scavengers. The Costa Mesa Sanitary District distributed the bins to residents earlier this month as part of a pilot program. Now, because of demand, the district's board of directors will weigh a request for $10,000 to supply residents with more of the scavenger-proof bins. Full StorySupreme Court rules that police guidelines are unlawful In a recent Supreme Court case, GC & C v the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, two individuals challenged the police's retention of their DNA samples and fingerprints.
The Court found that the Association of Chief Police Officers' (ACPO) guidelines, which prescribe that biometric data of unconvicted individuals should be indefinitely retained other than in exceptional circumstances, are unlawful as they do not comply with Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) covering the 'Right to respect for private and family life'.
