Ministry of Justice served with £180,000 penalty following encryption errors

The Ministry of Justice received a monetary penalty of £180,000 last week following a serious breach of the Data Protection Act. The breach was caused by the loss of an unencrypted hard drive at HMP Erlestoke in Wiltshire in May last year. The drive contained sensitive information relating to 2,935 prisoners. 

The ICO recommends that portable and mobile devices containing personal information, the loss of which could cause damage and distress to the individuals affected, should be encrypted.

Camera developed by MOBOTIX Advanced Partner for extremely hazardous environments proves popular. MOBOTIX AGhas announced that SeSys, an Advanced Partner has shipped its 500th ATEX / IECEx digital IP CCTV camera based on a modified MOBOTIX core within a unique design certified for use within inhospitable, hazardous or explosive areas.

The SeSys ATEX and IECEx certified models offer high resolution images for live monitoring and can include integral storage to record any images for post processing or record keeping. Recording can be event driven based on motion, light, or an external trigger for example a temperature or water vapour sensor.

Dig out your steering locks, drivers urged, as car thieves get high-tech

Police are urging motorists to search out their old-fashioned crook locks after modern car security systems have become an easy target for thieves.

Organised gangs who steal luxury models to order are thought to be behind an increase in car thefts, having mastered how to get around high-tech security devices. They can trick the 'keyless' ignition systems found in top-end cars with blank microchips that can be reprogrammed to start the engine. Others use 'jammers' to stop cars locking when drivers press their remote keys after parking.
