TriCut electric installation pliers - three functions combined in one hand tool

* TriCut.jpg
The three main steps for processing cable, including cutting the cable to length and stripping and skinning the individual conductors, usually require three separate tools: diagonal cutters, a cable stripper, and stripping pliers.

The TriCut combines all of these functions, which makes changing pliers unnecessary, which is a convincing argument for using these all-round pliers, in particular for frequent work on ladders near live parts. Especially when used in narrow spaces, the TriCut is a winning tool due to its specially angled head, which enables ergonomic and energy-saving stripping and skinning lengthwise on the cable.

Simple tools that can open locks on the most expensive vehicles in seconds

By Marc Weber Tobias

This is the third in a series of articles on the ability to rapidly compromise the security of mechanical locks, using electro-pick guns and the Sputnik tool developed by a burglar in Germany about thirty years ago (and that is still one of the most effective in opening pin tumbler cylinders). The tools were demonstrated at a recent meeting of locksmiths and security experts in the Czech Republic and graphically illustrate the need for multiple layers of security so that locks are not the only protection that is relied upon against entry.

Maximising the value of your door hardware

NormbauBlueLever.jpgBy Simon Osborne, Commercial Leader UK & Ireland of Allegion UK

When looking at door hardware, it may at first appear to be a simple choice that can be broken down into three broad factors: appearance, functionality, and cost, i.e. what type of hardware looks best, does what I need it to do right now and is the cheapest method of fulfilling the requirement.

However, there should be a much deeper thought process than that of the face value considerations listed above, particularly if you are specifying for multiple buildings, high footfall areas or if you are building in the public sector.

Vacant properties: be aware of spike in thefts and vandalism during the winter months

There is a significant spike in property claims when winter draws in, with November, December and January the most active months of the year for thefts and attempted break-ins. Winter time makes it easier for burglars and vandals to hide under the cover of darkness, and unoccupied properties are far easier targets than premises which are occupied.

VPS, the UK's leading specialist in managing and protecting vacant properties, has gleaned three decades of experience in the sector, and currently looks after 50,000 units in the UK, with a value in excess of £3 billion.
