ACT help Swansea regeneration

HDcctv Alliance the future pathway for analogue HD video

HDcctv Alliance executive director Todd Rockoff claims that HDCVI 2.0 is now THE standard analogue HD interface for surveillance video. "HDCVI 2.0 provides the easiest possible migration from legacy NTSC or PAL video to 720p or 1080p surveillance," he said. "HDCVI 2.0 compliance ensures 100% multi-vendor plug 'n' play remote control. HDCVI 2.0 is the only analogue HD solution based on issued patents with a published specification and a rigorous compliance certification methodology."

The Alliance is also already looking ahead, and has developed a roadmap for the subsequent versions. When the next-generation HDCVI 3.0 standard is introduced, it will provide for cost-effective 4K surveillance video transmission, while remaining backwards compatible with HDCVI 2.0.

Urmet's IP door entry secures new Lend Lease residential development in Battersea

Cobalt Place, a luxury eco-friendly project in the heart of Battersea Village, will use the Urmet IPervoice solution which requires only one Virtual LAN for the whole location. IPervoice meets Lend Lease's aim of single-platform control by operating from the site's main managed fibre network.

Losing Your Mettle: is the law failing to stand up to metal theft?

Contrary to the much-lauded 2013 Scrap Metal Dealers Act, new analysis on metal theft raises questions on its success and on how it has encouraged a shift from petty to large-scale organised crime.

The act was meant to cut metal theft which peaked in 2011/2012 when copper prices were high and UK businesses alone were experiencing over 1,000 such thefts a week, with an annual haul of 60,000 metal thefts reported.

Maker Bus program kick-starts creativity

It takes soft hands and a gentle touch to pick a lock. Under the watchful eye of a former locksmith and with an array of tools at his disposal, 10-year-old Kyle Desjardine can pick a front door lock in minutes flat.

Lest you think Desjardine attends some kind of school for pickpockets and petty criminals, fear not - he can also recite the two rules of lock picking: never pick a lock without permission, and never break the law.

Desjardine is one of several kids aged eight to 12 who are part of an after-school program that gives them hands-on activities once a week. It's run by the Maker Bus, a mobile hacker and maker space.
